I love this bit of GP-UK. When you get such a different view on established
medical wisdom, usually from elsewhere in the world.
Don't know why...but have been impregnated with the "knowledge" that it is
unnecessary to give more than 40mg prednisolone a day as the "top" adult
dose in asthma. It's probably wrong as we happily give 2mg/kg in childhood.
I've no idea what the NNTTBD (number needed to treat before disaster) is .
Possibly part of the anti steroid backlash in the ?70's
Wouldn't normally give oral steroid at all for non-asthma cough, and only
then if inhaled route not appropriate.

Wow 70mg/day. Equivalent to 56mg prednisolone/day.
I don't even prescribe that much for acute asthma!
