Because for years now the emphasis has been on 3 "A" levels in Physics,
Chemistry, and Biology. (and A passes at that!)
This has meant that there was very little time for prospective Doctors
to develop any literary or communication skills in their formative
years.
I sat 1st MB, having A levels in French, English ..(although KT may not
believe this, in view of my spelling!).., and Geography, and have
*never* regretted having a wider, if less focussed, education.
The demise of the First MB courses in the London Teaching Hospitals was
misguided, and it is encouraging to see other centres starting them up
again.
