Interesting!
Many years ago on this list, it was felt that such a book does not
exist.
It was even suggested that we could do a collaborative piece of work to
create such a book!
However, there is a south London GP who has been putting together a
book of general practice. It combines the usuall stuff about diseases,
problems and things, but it also includes sections on practice
management and one on 'tips and tricks' of the trade.
What is really good about it is that it draws on many other GPs'
experiences and allows for local and user modification and input. In
other words, you are able to add your own 'tips and tricks'. All these
additions can then be collected, put in front of an ed panel to decide
which, if any, can be incorporated into the next edition, and so on.
It's a cooperative sort of thing.
Couple years back, I helped put the book (now called GP Companion) into
a HTML structure. It was distributed to the GP registrars in south
London. It was well received and there is a formal audit of its use.
GPC is now entering its second stage of development and I have
converted about half of the second edition into HTML. The project has
run out of funding and the authors are pursuing some interesting
avenues.
Let me know if you want to know more. I may be able to get permission
to put some samples on a web site for comments.
