Agree with Trefor.
Presume the matron is not the owner of the home. A carefully worded, but firm
letter to the owner, pointing out the difficulty in providing proper medical
service in the home, with lack of equipment, and unprofessional attitude of
nursing staff. cc to HA.
(Would be interested to hear response if you did carry this out.)
I was in a belligerent mood myself this morning.
An obviously ill patient dragged herself into morning surgery, apologised for
attending, said she knew she had the bad flu-like virus doing the rounds at
present, and there was nothing I could do. But, after leaving work early
yesterday because of high temp and shivers, she had an evening telephone call
from her boss, saying she MUST attend a doctor the next day, for confirmation
that she was really ill.
She appears to have a good work record, and hardly ever attends surgery.
Examination revealed nothing untoward, apart from high temp, and reddish
throat.
Got her permission to write to her boss.
Sent her home to bed.
Then wrote letter to her boss, explaining I had conducted a medical
examination for the purpose of confirming sickness, that this wasn't covered
by NHS and enclosed a bill for £27.
Will let you know what happens :-)

In a message dated 11/02/98 22:41:17 GMT, you write:

Change to Para 13, the patient is to be seen where clinically appropriate.
Doctor has to put himself in position to make diagnosis or is in breech.
Therefore, if they don't have equipment, (couch, light, chaperone, swabs,
speculae, packs, biopsy forceps, blood taking equipment, proctoscope,
sigmoidoscope microscope, centrifuge and anything else you have in your
surgery), the best place to put yourself in a position to make a diagnosis is,
your surgery! Let them argue with that after totting up the bill. The person
to complain to is the owner of the home, telling them they are not well
enoughed equipped for proper examination of the patient :-)))
