That's the point isn't it - it's the (bed) partners that suffer most.
Fear of disturbing the sleeping partner drives one out of bed.

I have searched Medline for evidence on (lack of) effectiveness of
linctus ... nothing.
There were a few references to papers dated 1969 and 1977 comparing 2
linctuses probably no longer available.
There was a salutary paper on the addictive nature of opiate linctuses.
I wonder how many bottles of the stuff are sold OTC?
How much money pharma companies make from them?
Patients arrive in the consultation with the complaint "I've taken B....
(or whatever) and it hasn't worked"
"Well it wouldn't" is not a particularly empathic answer.
Maybe I shall set my student onto a simple survey on patient use of
linctus... Shhh! don't tell her, it's got to be her idea ..
