I use the guide of imagining the patient in their own home..I would
expect them to have some plasters, paracetamol etc., but if they were
getting through 1 melolin(skintact is cheaper and double-sided) a day, I
would prescribe it, and the micropore (scanpor is cheaper ;-)).

I suppose it depends a bit on the size of institution. I look after a
50-bedder and had similar problems. Solved it by insisting on separate
scripts for individual patients e.g. no more melolin * 100, micropore*20
etc.( That way I found out that one old boy was having his silastic
catheter changed every week. Changed to latex catheter and made large
saving( and less blockages too, strangely enough))
More work in short term but big dividends on drug budget.
