>Why?
>From empirical evidence there does not seem to be a huge burden of
illness caused by childhood rotavirus infection - yes, it is supposedly
the cause of 75% of infantile gastroeneteritis (though one rarely sends
stools in simple cases) - but we are talking of a 24-48 hour illness are
we not?
Infants do not die from gastroenteritis, they die from dehydration - in
this country we have facilities for diagnosing and preventing
dehydration - different in developing countries I agree.
>Do you know how many it affects?
>Do you know how many get admitted to hospital?
>Do you know the morbidity and mortality figures?
There may be statistics from hospital data available, but this is not
representative of the prevalence.
Mortality in this country is not great.
There are other preventable viral infections for which vaccines are
developed which might warrant priority.
>These questions are for better minds than mine. Thought the list gets
>excited about clinical stuff :-)
Don't think anyne else is still awake tonight.
>If it is a good thing, why not?
There are many *good things* but one should still prioritise.
