Dear Bob:
This is to give some information about what we do and how we work, Angela and myself.
Angela Xavier de Brito, sociologist, Ana Vasquez, psuchologist, both researchers at the CNRS (France) working at the CERLIS, associated to the University of Paris V, René Descartes.
Since the eighties our team works in ethnographic research. Our main subject is the socialization process and how it happens in schools. A part of this research was done with a Spanish team directed by Isabel Martinez, from «La Caixa» of Barcelona. The work with the Spanish team focusses on the socialization process of minority children, and it is a qualitative comparative research.
Our last research was done in 2 French high-schools, our focus was the mutual integration of children whose families came from France but also from different countries, in the particular context of French school.
The most recent research studies the parallel socialization process that is happening in an institution out of school. We are actually analysing this field work.
The research process itself has been acquiring a greater importance in our work.Within this frame, (1) we try to know how the actors themselves interpret what they do. (2) the observation process is done with video cameras, so as to make cut and tape films as working documents for a better interacion with the actors..
