Thanks for the report on your discussions in Ljubljana.
I'd be happy to help translating from Swedish to English, if you need
that. I could give a try at translating English to Swedish, but my
active vocabulary in Swedish is atrophying quickly.
I didn't have a chance to respond earlier, when you asked about our
ethnography in education projects. For my dissertation on I conducted
lengthy, semi-structured interviews of teachers in all departments of a
small-town high school. My goal was two-fold: to learn what they knew
about archaeology and whether they used it in their teaching; and to
learn how they made decisions about including new material in their
teaching. The dissertation (U of Massachusetts 1995) is not published,
I presented the preliminary results at the Society for American
Archaeology (SAA) annual meeting in 1994, and could send copies of that
paper to anyone who is interested.
I don't have much chance to do formal ethnographic studies now, but as
the Public Education manager at SAA, I am doing applied ethnography all
the time, and working to include ethnographical approaches in all our
projects.
