Small German job a Marburg, I suspect [usually Braille shorthand but I've seen 
it used for "longhand"].   I agree with Ian's very positive comments about 
Perkins, which still are used very widely [I include myself - much quicker than a 
Braille 'n Speak or whatever] and you can correct errors with a ballpoint pen 
cap!  Another option is a Mountbatten electronic brailler - good at multitasking:  
standalone or added on to a pc as a braille keyboard, QWERTY keyboard 
plugged into it so non-Braillist can produce Braille, Braille embosser from pc 
requiring no translation software...  Let me know if more details required.

Hi All
Further to this thread about braillers, as far I as know students here
are still using Perkins Braillers in our Library for note taking with
their readers, or for other tasks such as making labels for tapes or
disks. No need to boot it up and it rarely fails to work when you need
it to, and usually writes what you asked it too! A student here has a
smaller, lightweight plastic version which has a German name which I
can't remember. He uses this for note taking in some situations,
although he also has a braille'n'speak and a laptop!
We bought a couple of braille'n'prints a few years back which are
gathering dust in the store room, I lost faith after being the
unfortunate person who had to explain to a student after her exam that,
unknown to her or the little old lady invigilating, the printer had
jammed after the second line of print. This was the earlier version
which didn't have any memory. Thankfully, as these use the Perkins to
operate, she had a hard copy of her work in braille.
