The current status is that ISO (WG5) has cancelled the project. This was
due to (1) concerns about the timeframe, (2) lack of human resources in WG
and (3) some fundamental disagreements about the form of interop.
J3 was asked to take over the work as a F2000 work item, which they
accepted. As far as I know, J3 is currently evaluating in which direction
they want to proceed, e.g. continue the work as outlined in the ISO PDTR,
somehow like the HPF approach, or different. So although the 1997-03-17
is the latest ISO document, this does not say much about how interop will
be implemented in F2000.
Thanks,
Michael (formerly PDTR project editor)
