Dear Dr Woodfine,

Did this get to me by mistake? My husband is a subscriber to the list and I
am an occasional user; however, it hasn't fallen into the wrong quarter. I
am at the English Dept at Anglia Polytechnic University. I couldn't help
being interested in hearing news of Brian Maidment, who was for many years
our external, and a wonderful external too. Every word you say is the
truth - he gave an enthralling talk on Victorian prints a few years ago.
Good luck to you both; I come into Walpole mostly via The Castle of
Otranto, though marginally also via Mary Shelley, who enjoyed his letters,
and who was encouraged by his Historic Doubts to dare to question the
consensus about the imposter status of Perkin Warbeck. Sincerely Nora
Crook.
