The best line I ever read about Tennyson is from (I think) Adrian
Mitchell's The Oxford History of English Poetry:
And then there was a thousand years of Tennyson.
Funny, really,
we all thought he was a golfer.
But I lost (or lent) the book it was in and haven't read it for years.
Can anyone post it for me?
Best
