I have just been and bought
Derrida: Writing and Difference
Derrida: Of Grammatology
Roger Penrose: The Emperor's New Mind
Roger Penrose: Shadows of the Mind
and for myself
Simon Singh: Fermat's Last Theorem
which is just out in paperback.
I forgot to order the Reeves/Kerridge book on Prynne.
So over the next month, barring interruptions for the Bath Festival,
I should get meself educated.
Very impressed last night by Katherine Duncan-Jones Arden edition
of the Sonnets. A third of the price of the Helen Vendler and beautifully
concise. Quite put off reading the Vendler after finishing it. Shakespeare
has about 6-8 sonnets which are world class and thump you in the eye,
then there are another 6-8 with very good bits in them, then the rest
are at a distinctly lower level. I couldnt help but feel he was taking
the micky out of the Dark Lady all the time whereas he was in real
earnest about Mr W.H.
