It was interesting to hear Ira Lightman's views on
Donald Davie. I can confirm that as a layperson whose
idea of contemporary poetry was Hughes/Heaney/Larkin
(a long time ago!) I was first made receptive to other voices
by reading Davie's criticism, especially of Pound and
Bunting, but also people like Charles Olson.
Davie's own poetry is a good example of 'Poundian' formal
verse.
