Poetry is about nothing but personal taste out of which a consensus
accumulates over the centuries.
Being unable to sleep probably cos of the heat and too much latenight
coffee while listening to 16th century Spanish music I thought I
would type in the complete set of Etruscan Readers as a few people
on the list are involved.
1. Helen Macdonald, Gael Turnbull, Nicholas Johnson
2. Tom Scott, Sorley MacLean, Hamish Henderson
3. Maggie O'Sullivan, David Gascoyne, Barry MacSweeney
4. Bob Cobbing, Maurice Scully, Carlyle Reedy
5. Tom Raworth, Bill Griffiths, Tom Leonard
6. Robin Blaser, Barbara Guest, Lee Harwood
7. Alice Notley, Wendy Mulford, Brian Coffey
8. Randolph Healy, Tina Darragh, Douglas Oliver
9. Meg Bateman, Nicholas Moore, Fred Beake
8 & 9 are yet to be published. Copies available from Nicholas Johnson
at Etruscan Books, 24a Fore Street, Buckfastleigh,
South Devonshire TQ11 0AA priced at 7.50 pounds.
These are 120 page books in a large format. Nick will now be proceeding
to publish books. Existing Etruscan Books are
High West Rendezvous by Edward Dorn
The Earth Suite by Carl Rakosi
I havent bought all the Etruscan Readers available but the highlight for
me has been new Poems to Eimhir by Sorley MacLean. As good as anything
in Iain Crichton Smith's Northern House pamphlet or the Collected Poems.
Just a few poems but marvellous quality in their English translation.
