Time to wrap this thread up and get back to High Art, I guess. But I was
amazed how many people were prepared to defend even an indiferent poet in
his/her right to charge an above-average fee: I'm clearly out-of-step on
this one - but where will it end?
- this used car's crap, but 12K is a fair price to ask for it, because
that's what others have paid for something vaguely like it;
- the vegetables are rotten, but some vegetables are selling at 2.99 per
kilo, so that's what we're charging and anyway you probably can't tell
the difference;
- we put this indifferent beer in snazzy bottles, hype it up and sell it
at a fiver a time to teenagers who think it looks kool;
- etc -
It happens, I know - Caveat Emptor was the title of an unpublished
collection of Bunting's - but I'm not letting any of you lot do my grocery
shopping!
Happy weekends,
R
