|autobiography. Briggflatts, the only _life_ he wanted, is "An
|Autobiography, but not a record of fact [...] The truth of the poem is of
|another kind."
This is obvious and I knew it; but I relearned it yesterday. Typing up a
statement by the Swedish poet Hodell and _translating_ the title of a piece
of his as _autobiography_... from the Swedish which is sjalvbiografi -
self-biography I suppose
It's the same - self and auto - and yet I feel the difference. Self, takes
me away from fact to another kind of fact / truth of another kind as Ric
quotes Bunting - how it seems, how it feels, how it might have been,
analogies, all those constituents of the _self_. That displacement by
recognising something like an English word, something close to it which has
diverged or been diverged from, made a clear label for the different
possibilities in the one overall act of auto / self biography
