Chris:
Nice to see you in full view: have you been lurking in the undergrowth
seething all this time? If so, for god's sake get out more often and
shoot a few more barbs: I for one would welcome it.
As a mid-forties representative of the list, but non-poet, I'm conscious
that younger poets have not had much of a look-in so far, but ignorance
can be challenged. Put some of their work up on the list as some of the
rest of us have done with our enthusiasms, and let's see what it's like.
Even better get them to join the list and fire off some of their own
work, tell us what they're about. I've read poems but not books by about
four or five of the list you name (I lie, I've read one book by Hofmann
- and it was dire), and I can't see anything there to make me go explore
further. I have a similar problem with Lavinia Greenlaw ...
You missed out W H Herbert by the way, who I do think is worth exploring
further.
Angel Exhaust has done a reasonable job of presenting younger writers
and Stride did an anthology a couple of years back of younger and mostly
unpublished (in book form) writers that included some good work. All of
us here need more of our minds opened, and debate and disagreement are
good for the list.
regards
Tony
