Third Sub Voicive Colloquium - Bulletin 1
The Third Sub Voicive Colloquium will be held at the Centre for English
Studies, Senate House, University of London on Friday 29th January 1999...
1) The Second Colloquium was held on a Saturday in order to help people who
could not free themselves from work to be there. The attendance did not seem
to justify that and, in some cases, deterred people - or so they said. If
there were strong feelings that we should hold the colloquium on a Saturday
and if those feelings were made known early, I would approach CES to see if
a change is possible. However, I can see many advantages to going with
Friday.
2) There were a number of administrative problems with the 2nd Colloquium
from which I trust we have learned. ie it should be better organised this
time.
3) As before, I stress that it is a colloquium and not a conference. I think
we need to have fewer things in the 3rd than the 2nd... We raced against the
clock last time
and, as a result, discussion was curtailed. That combined with the tendency
for contributions to be papers.
4) Therefore, *again we are looking for leaders of discussion - people to
speak for say 15 minutes in such a way as to get discussions going
5) Proposals are requested. Guidelines are few. Remember it is the _Sub
Voicive Poetry_ colloquium, so that the interests and concerns of SVP,
insofar as they are easily definable, should be foregrounded... Don't think
that because you contributed last time, you can't contribute again, either
to develop what you were saying then or to speak on something else
6) Assume they'll have solved the problems with their systems by then and
that we shall have all the gizmos working
7) Don't think that because it's a long way ahead you don't need to think
about it. That is disspiriting for the organiser apart from anything else.
And the date is put a long way ahead so that session leaders don't face an
awful rush to be ready.
8) Look for the funding now, please, and put the date in your diaries
Feedback please and advice
