have just misheard a statement about bill clinton on the tv news - the
announcer said "only a full admission of perjury can now save him"
i thought he said "only a full admission of poetry can now save him"
suprised that jon corelis sees w.b.yeats as "apolitical" - didn't his first
biographer joseph hone have nazi-sympathies? not suprised that macdiarmid &
eliot had clear lines of communication - macdiarmid veered right-and-left
throughout - Social Credit, Stalinism & nationalism
don't know of any overtly far right poets today of the kind that would be
recognised by the extreme right but there are many who have a kind of
literary far-rightism, a far-rightism of the mind - ch sisson & geoffery
hill seem obvious examples & the atavistic imagery of others suggests
there's many a wolf in sheep's clothing.
but thanks to jon corelis for his well-writ mail
