As well as collecting big chunks of money it would also be sensible to ask
for advance subs - that works to some extent for some presses and I can
sometimes manage that - if you know you're going to buy a book anyway and
you have faith publisher seeing the project through why not buy in advance?
It helps the publisher.
I couldn't put any big money up front - £50 is big - and I am sure that
there are many others like me; but I would want to support even a Nigel
Lawson size Peter Riley - sorry to mention NL but his name keeps coming into
my head since I heard his wife on Woman's Hour. I'm seeing the doctor next
week
