Third Sub Voicive Colloquium - Bulletin 2
*
The Third Sub Voicive Colloquium will be held at the Centre for English
Studies, Senate House, University of London on Friday 29th January 1999...
1. There were a number of administrative problems with the 2nd Colloquium,
from which we have learned: it should be better organised this time.
2. We need to have fewer events in the 3rd than the 2nd... The 2nd
colloquium raced against the clock, with a tendency for contributions to be
presented as conference papers: discussion was curtailed. It is stressed
that the Third Sub Voicive Colloquium is a colloquium and not a conference.
3. The Third Sub Voicive Colloquium will focus and concentrate upon the
practice of contemporary British and Irish poets. Starting reference points
will include:
a. FOR THE BIRDS: proceedings of the First Cork Conference on New and
Experimental Irish Poetry (26 April 1997) edited by Harry Gilonis,
hardPressed / Mainstream 1998
b. the forthcoming book on visual poetry and its performance, edited by
Cobbing and Upton, to be published by Writers Forum in the autumn of 1998
c. OTHER: BRITISH AND IRISH POETS SINCE 1970 edited by Caddel and
Quartermain, to be published by Wesleyan University Press in the winter of
1998
4. Proposals are requested. Guidelines are few. Remember it is the Sub
Voicive Poetry colloquium, so that the interests and concerns of SVP,
insofar as they are easily definable, should be foregrounded... Don't think
that because you contributed last time, you can't contribute again, either
to develop what you were saying then or to speak on something else
5. The date is put a long way ahead so that session leaders don't face an
awful rush to be ready. Look for the funding now, please, and put the date
in your diaries.
