I'm glad you enjoyed CCCP8, Roger. I too am slightly taken aback at, not
sniping so much as the tone in which some of it is done. I think there is a
historical expectation of in-groupness which has very little to do with the
event as presently constituted (and a certain amount to do with the
ideological force of a certain idea of "Cambridge", whose roots go back
further than its branches). The intention of the organisers is to be more
broadly eclectic in some respects in the future, but it is certainly not a
narrow affair at the moment, as eg the Soares review makes clear. If any
member of the audience has felt slighted or ignored, I'm very sorry. But
it's not clear who anybody might feel ignored by. Not the organisers, I
hope, who try to be welcoming to everybody.
