Advisory To A Young Poet
A sentence with a face full of gin
stands a chance
of entering the next life.
Sober sentences must first pass through a state
of purification.
A sentence being the reward
for good words, and some bad ones.
Words being spiritual beings,
and the published sentence the place
of perfect supernatural happiness.
A sentence inches on its way
toward the center of the universe,
wearing the seven spheres of the firmament
and shadowy celestial corners ---
If hint of meaning occurs,
then resurrection. Hope for a new life.
The dictionary the happy hunting ground,
words privy to the holy sanctuary of the pen.
The meaning of words like the souls
of birds flutter from the nib,
how blissful the hand ---
oddly calmed
by their sudden flight
and drunken, rowdy makes its way
through the garish streets.
