Guidelines for Contributors to New Hope International.
======================================================
Magazines:- Aabye (formerly New Hope International Writing)
and New Hope International Review.
The editor is willing to consider MSS at any time of the year. Poetry may
be any length but each poem, unless part of a short series, should be on a
separate sheet. The name & address of the author should be on the front of
all sheets.
Translations should be accompanied by copies of the originals (with
copyright clearance for publication if appropriate). MSS should be
typewritten. Clear photocopies or computer-printouts are acceptable, but
handwritten MSS or faded typewriter ribbons are not. Email submissions are
not considered without a prior agreement.
UK contributors must enclose a suitably sized self-addressed envelope (sae)
with sufficient postage or contributions will not be considered. Overseas
contributors should send International Reply Coupons (IRCs) instead of sae.
Please note that non-UK postage stamps/coins are not acceptable! If you do
not require the MS returned, please advise, but note an sae or IRC is still
required.
If your work is accepted for Aabye you will normally be sent a proof-copy
to be returned with any corrections. Shorter work may be kept for use in
NHI Review. In these cases it will not be possible to formally accept work
until the Review is near to completion. Sometimes we reply very speedily
but on average expect to hear from us in about 3-4 weeks. If we are very
busy, however, this period might extend to about six months at the maximum.
If your work is not accepted, please do not be disheartened. We receive
thousands of poems a year. Whilst some are non-starters, many are well
worthy of publication and around 10% we would be quite happy to publish.
Restraints of time and money mean we can accept just less than 1% of the
work submitted. Please note, the editor's job is to select from the best,
not to offer criticism.
Covering letters are appreciated, but keep them brief, and do not try to
"explain" your work. It should speak for itself. Although we are open to
all styles of poetry from traditional to avant-garde, would-be contributors
ought to study a few copies of the magazine to familiarise themselves
before submitting work. Back-copies are 2 pounds (3 pounds ex-UK) each, or
3 for 5 pounds (8 pounds ex-UK). Omnibius subscriptions to New hope
International bring you six issues of Aabye, NHI Review and Special Edition
Chapbooks as published for just 18 pounds (24 pounds ex-UK). The Review
reports each year on hundreds of small-press books and magazines, as well
as cds, cassettes, videos and PC-compatible software of interest to
wordsmiths. Single copies of either Aabye or NHI Review are 3 pounds 75p (5
pounds ex-UK) each. Individual subscriptions to either title are 10 pounds
(13 pounds ex-UK) for 3 issues. Cheques drawn on UK banks should be made
payable to "G. England". We can no longer accept non-sterling cheques. We
can accept the cash equivalent to the ex-UK price in any currency, but
prefer payment in sterling by means of an International Giro (available
from Post Offices worldwide).
We do not publish unsolicited reviews. Would-be reviewers who are resident
in the UK and subscribers should contact the editor for details.
