This list seems to be in a temporary lull, first because the Poetry etc. list
bled it for a while (but is now not very active), and second, perhaps, because
we began a dispute. Lawrence keeps up his messages, which I welcome -- lets
me know over here what's going on in that upper room. Disputes are OK. The
Buffalo tolerates fiercer ones without apparent trouble or, even, loss of
mutual support. Surely our own list can keep opening out, not narrowing down?
Gare du Nord magazine, which Alice and I run and circulate mostly to
subscribers, has a regular feature in which we ask readers to reply to a
question or questions of importance to poetry. The results are then published
as an article. So far, we've asked for spooky stories of mind-bending (two
issues' worth of replies), and for likes and dislikes about contemporary
poetry. Our next issue, due out before Christmas, will ask what taking risks
means in poetic practice.
So could I reopen things by asking listees if they have any suggestions for
future issues of Gare du Nord of questions we should ask readers? A good
question(s) should be brief and capable of being answered briefly -- or it
should be unexpected. Broadly, the aim is not so dissimilar from these chat
pages: to stimulate further thinking about our poetic activities in some
bright way. (It's not that we run out of ideas, you see, but I thought we
should tap the public!)
Warmly
Doug
