In my teens I learnt from the books of Christopher Isherwood
how to write dispassionately about one's self. In my twenties,
taking up poetry, I encountered Ezra Pound's concept of the
persona. Since then I have written in various persona (eg
Fritz Cat) using parts of myself as the base for the `I'.
In recent years I have come more to writing about myself but this
`self' is a construct and is `my version of myself' rather than
the actual me. Some people don't understand this. I just approach
`me' as though I am another persona. It all goes back to absorbing
Isherwood in my teens.
