Romantic Couplings
University of Sheffield, 27th March, 1999
************************************
Proposals are invited for papers of between 20-25 minutes
on the theme of Romantic-period partnerships and couplings.
While that most famous of Romantic partnerships, between
Wordsworth and Coleridge, defines for many the idea of
poetic collaboration, this conference seeks to demystify
and to open up the notion of pairing to explore less-
well-travelled ground. Partnerships could include
Coleridge/Robinson, Smith/Wordsworth, Tighe/Keats,
Byron/Landon, Wollstonecraft/Godwin, Shelley/Shelley,
Blake/Wordsworth, Wollstonecraft/Shelley; topics could
include the conjoining of genre, the idea of influence,
poetic conversations, allusion and imitation, illustrated
texts: word and image, plagiarism.
The Conference will be held at the University of Sheffield
on 27th March, 1999, and the keynote speaker is Nora Crook.
Abstracts of 300-400 words should be sent by 1 January 1999
to Dr. Jacqueline Labbe, School of English, Shearwood
Mount, University of Sheffield, Sheffield S10 2TD. Email
submissions are acceptable if sent as either a Word (.doc)
or .rtf attachment to [log in to unmask]
