There's G.A.Buerger's 'Pfarrerstochter von Taubenhain', in about 30
long stanzas: noble villain von Falkenberg seduces the vicar's
daughter and she dies, executed for infanticide, with a curse on her
lips... When this got into the street ballad market, a further 30 or
so stanzas were added, telling how the heartless Junker goes on to marry
a rich noblewoman, but the ghost of the dead woman haunts their
wedding bed and drives him to madness and suicide.
Wrong ghost, sorry. Not really 'folk' either: this was only ever
sung by professionals (ballad-sheet-sellers) and in parlours. And
wrong language too, of course.
