The 1998 IASPM UK Conference:
POPULAR MUSIC - PAST AND FUTURE
Institute of Popular Music, University of Liverpool, Friday 11th to Sunday
13th September 1998

A two day interdisciplinary conference with speakers and panels from the
UK, USA, Japan, Australia, Finland, Bulgaria and Israel
Keynote Speaker: Professor Simon Frith (Strathclyde University)
Topics to include:
- The mobilisation of 'the past' in popular music discourses.
- Re-evaluations of the histories of popular music genres.
- Revivals and nostalgia in contemporary popular music.
- The possible impact of new technologies and the internet on popular music.
- Issues and future directions in the study of popular music.
