I'm thinking about writing an MA dissertation on auteurism in computer
animation - ie. why is it that, with one or two exceptions (eg. beriou),
very few artists working with 3D computer animation develop their own
visual language...
why is mise-en-scene not incorporated into the film form of a computer
animated film, in the same way that it is in live action or animated film.
In the same way as the advent of photography liberated artists in terms of
developing other means of representing reality through abstraction, the
ability to simulate reality seems to have had the opposite effect, and
artists working with 3d computer software often obsess about 100% accurate
depiction, or hyper-realism.
if you have any thoughts on the subject, please discuss them with me..
