for EPSRC Studentships. The funding body have now agreed to supplement
this by up to 4000GBP per annum.
Cot death is frequently in the news. Here is an opportunity to develop
statistical methodology to address a problem of considerable public
interest.

PhD Studentship in Statistics
(Determinants of Seasonality of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome)
A 3-year Studentship is available at the University of Aberdeen,
funded by the Scottish Cot Death Trust, on the topic above.
Applicants should have, or expect to obtain, a good Honours
degree, or MSc, in Statistics, or in a subject with substantial
Statistics content. The student will be jointly supervised by
Professors Peter Helms and Ian Jolliffe in the Departments of
Child Health and Mathematical Sciences respectively. A
starting date in October 1998 would be ideal, but a there
is flexibility over this date for the right candidate.
