Biometrics Department
Medical Statistician
The Biometrics Department requires a medical statistician to assist with
the design, data collection, monitoring, analysis and reporting of
clinical trials. The department gives services to clinicians and other
scientists from within the institute and to pharmaceutical industry. Large
projects the department is involved in are a randomized European trial
examining chemoprevention in lung and head and neck cancer patients and
meta-analysis in prostate cancer. The successful candidate will
participate in the analysis of these projects and will be expected to work
independently on other projects. Depending on ambitions and skill of the
successful applicant part of the job might be in designing databases.
Applicants should have a strong background in statistics or mathematics
and good communication skills. Previous experience in medical statistics
is desired but not essential. Ideally applicants should have knowledge of
the SAS language. Programming experience in S-Plus or MS Access will be
viewed favourably.
This is a good opportunity to gain experience in the field of clinical
trials. The Netherlands Cancer Institute is an integrated cancer hospital
and cancer research institute. The projects are varied and will give you a
broad view of cancer research. The post is full-time and available
immediately. Initial funding is for two years with the possibility of
extension.
