The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) is a
non-departmental public body responsible for allocating nearly £4
billion each year to universities and colleges in England in support of
teaching and research.
The Analytical Services Group provides professional advice and
specialised services to the HEFCE and other interested bodies. Recent
developments in higher education have resulted in an increased demand
for the group's services, which has led to the creation of these new
posts. The group is involved in a range of challenging and interesting
projects of national and international significance. These include
preparations for the forthcoming research assessment exercise in 2001;
developing, maintaining and operating the Council's funding models and
processes; developing performance indicators; and providing quantitative
analysis, research and advice on issues affecting higher education in
England.
The successful applicants will have the opportunity of becoming
involved in all aspects of the group's work and will be assigned tasks
depending on their aptitude, experience, and personal interests. The
appointments will initially be for a period of three years.
Applicants should have at least a good first degree with a
significant mathematical content and possess an aptitude for
quantitative analysis and statistical programming. Experience of SAS and
other relevant software would be desirable but not essential as full
training will be provided. Applicants for the senior post should have at
least five years relevant experience as they will be responsible for
part of the management of this project.
If you are interested in applying for either of these posts and
would like to receive an application form and information pack, please
