Department of
Mathematics and Statistics
SENIOR LECTURER
LECTURER (2 POSTS)
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is one of three Departments
comprising
the College of Informatics and Electronics. It offers a Bachelor of
Science degree in Applied
Mathematics and Computing; a taught Master of Science degree also in
Applied Mathematics
and Computing and a Postgraduate Diploma in
Mathematics/Statistics/Computing. In
addition the Department is responsible for the teaching of the
mathematics,
statistics and
mathematics education components of all other degree programmes in the
University. The
range of such instruction extends through mathematical methods, applied
statistics,
operations research, numerical analysis and mathematical education. The
Department is
also anxious to develop programmes in Financial Mathematics and
Mathematics
of
Computing.
There is also a substantial programme of postgraduate research leading
to
M.Sc. and Ph.D.
awards. This research covers a wide range of areas including fluid
mechanics, geophysical
fluid dynamics, industrial mathematics, non-linear mathematics,
numerical
analysis, reliability,
neural networks, mathematical education, Bayesian methods, spatial
statistics, epidemiology
and survival analysis.
The successful candidates will possess a record of published research
and a
clear
commitment to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. A
doctorate is required
together with lecturing and/or industrial experience.
At least one of the appointments will be made in the area of statistics.
SALARY SCALES:
Senior Lecturer ?32,456 - ?42,697 p.a.
Lecturer ?23,722 - ?38,767 p.a.
