The following advertisment is to appear in The Guardian

The University of Sheffield
Statistical Services Unit
(Department of Probability and Statistics)
CONSULTANT
The SSU provides professional consultancy and training across a broad range
of application areas of statistics, as well as services to researchers within the
University and Sheffield Central Hospitals. With clients ranging in size from
small private companies to large multi-nationals and public utilities, the SSU
offers its consultants a challenging opportunity to gain a rare breadth of
experience in the practical application of statistics. In particular, it has
extensive involvement in: auditing of performance measurements in the rail
industry; analysis and reporting of clinical trials in the pharmaceutical industry;
providing consultancy to the health service; the design, analysis and reporting
of surveys; and the delivery of statistics and software workshops.
We are currently looking to expand our services and therefore require an
additional consultant. Applicants should possess a good honours degree,
including a substantial element of statistics, or a postgraduate qualification in
statistics. Work experience in the areas outlined above would be especially
welcome although not essential. In addition, you should have the following
personal qualities: an enthusiastic approach to the practical application of
statistics; good communication skills; commercial awareness; an ability to
work to deadlines; and an attention to detail.
Salary in the range £15,735 - £18,275 pa.
