I have three queries. The first relates to the literature of maximum
likelihood estimation. Can anyone give me details of the early influential
papers which set out the foundation of maximum likelihood estimation. I
understand that Gauss is generally credited with the discovery. The second
relates to the literature of structural time series models. There seem to
be many papers which extol the virtues of this methodology. Is anyone aware
of critical publications on this subject? Finally, is there a ranking
system for statistics departments in the UK and if so does anyone know how
the ranking is calculated and the results for recent years?
Thanks in advance.
G Treacy.
