Many years ago, I had occasion to look at this. Someone (maybe me)
found an astounding correlation of lung cancer with the sign of the
Zodiac -- cancer patients were much more likely to be born under one
sign than under another. Before rushing to publication, we looked at
the table of birth rates by month for different years published by the
U.S. Department of Vital Statistics. The effect of differential
birthrate by month is not small. As I recall, some months have about
1/3 higher rates (Spring is highest) than others.
Of course when the observed birth rate (rather than the uniform) was
used as the null hypothesis the association with sign of the Zodiac
went away.
