The Student Loans Company has sent out today the letter below modifying
its original instructions. They are now able to wait for the term dates
until the end of March. The format of the date required is still
specified a little imperfectly. They still want the other information by
the end of this week.

For my part, for the course info I propose to send them the appropriate
columns from the Excel spreadsheet we sent to UCAS for the Term Dates
exercise at the beginning of this year, to which I will have added any new
courses for 1999 entrants. I will use the same spreadsheet structure for
return of our 1999-2000 dates in the new year.

If you send them a copy of your current UCAS handbook page, attach a note
asking them to create the abbreviations. Also, do not forget to write in
any courses which are no longer recruiting but for which you will still
have students next year.

University/College Database

Dear Colleague,

Further to our letter dated 18 November 1998, the DfEE have agreed to
amend the deadline for the supply of the course dates for inclusion in
the new National Database for Universities and Colleges. This will now be
31st March 1999. The deadline for the remainder of the information remains
at 4th December 1998. Please note that the description of some items has
been clarified.

The creation of this database is necessary because although course
information for the majority of courses is held by UCAS, there are many
HE courses (especially in FE sector) about which neither UCAS nor the DfEE
has any information.

As the ultimate objective is to ensure payment for the appropriate amount
is made to students at the start of term, the National College Database is
instrumental in allowing information to be transferred between the Award
Authorities and the Student Loans Company, ensuring that your students
receive payment on time.

If supplying this information electronically (via E-mail) please provide
this as an attached Microsoft Excel or Word file (any format).

We appreciate this is a large task. However, the DfEE has indicated that
all institutions are expected to supply the information requested by the
deadlines set.

If you have already replied to the letter of 18th November, then please
ignore this letter. We will contact you shortly if any clarification is
needed of the information received.

All replies should be directed to:
