The DfEE are currently finalising the details of policy for the
1999/2000 academic year and will be producing a single set of
regulations for fees, loans and supplementary grants for new students
and those who started in 1998/99. They say:
"We are currently working through the various issues and seeking
agreement in principle from Ministers on the way forward. As we do
so we will be consulting key interested bodies...on our proposals"
The first stage dealt with eligibility issues and went out on 21
October to:
LGA
CVCP
SCOP
NUS
SLC
Welsh Joint Education Committee
Council of Independent Colleges and Research Institutions
AOC
UCAS
NASMA
AMOSSHE
HEFCE
FEFC
The deadline for responses was 30 October.
They will be consulting about other issues - particularly the
treatment of various "special cases" such as sandwich students, study
overseas etc - over the next few weeks. Once final decisions hve
been taken on the policy issues they aimto consult on the draft
regulations themselves hopefully in late November/early December.
I am not able to reply to the nasma list as I am not a member but
please feel free to forward this to it if you think it would be
useful.
