At Heriot-Watt University we are currently considering our
practice of displaying student marks.
At present departments normally display a marks list
after each term's examination diet and students are
identified by ID number only. In addition, after the Summer
diet, students are sent an examination results letter
containing all marks to their home address.
How do other institutions notify examination results and is
there any reason why marks should not be displayed with the
ID number as a reference ?
With our modular system where some modules are
synoptically linked and thus examined in each term with the
overall mark being calculated in the final term, it may be
necessary to amend marks in the Autumn and Spring term
subsequent to students being notified of such marks to
allow marks to be weighted in the final term. Does anyone
know whether the practice of changing marks once given is
legitimate ? How do other institutions amend marks of which
a student has been notified ?
Thanks in anticipation.
