Roger,
I know one of the problems which has been encountered has been in
relation to mature students. As they tend to apply later and often
through clearing after they know about their Access courses, they get
lost in the LEA rush. The problem is they are often the people who need
to know this info before they start as they have mortgages and things
to pay.
We have had a number of mature students who have had to leave because
their LEA assessment hadn't come through (and hence grant) and they
had lost their benefits. So ways of speeding up the system would
really be appreciated. Student Loans also take a while to come
through, so they often have no money coming in at all for a
particular length of time.
