Joanna
As you will know, we are now up to thirteen in July and four at
Christmas. The Chancellor generally does 2-3 days (of 5) in July.
Having just moved to three ceremonies each day, this means he has
agreed to cover eight this time, covering Wednesday, Thursday and
most of Friday.
He usually does all four (over two days) at Christmas.
The remainder in July (in this case, the following Monday / Tuesday)
are shared between the Pro-Chancellor and Deputy-Pro-Chancellor.
Our V.C. is usually at all our ceremonies, and confers when the
Chancellor is not present.
As far as I am aware, our graduands have not expressed the sort of
concern you raise about "not getting a proper job" if the Chancellor
is not there.
Kind Regards to you and colleagues at Reading.
Paul
