I've only just read your comment and all the replies as I've been
occupied with graduations, so may be too late for your response.
Students here sign the enrolment form to say that they consent to
abide by the regulations, which include information on the
publication of results. We also publish results in a number of forms,
pass lists, award notices displayed on noticeboards, the graduation
programme, letters to employers etc.
I would agree with the two main concerns raised by others:
1. That degree congregations are by their nature held in front of an
audience of the general public, therefore the award of a degree is
from that moment public information and the booklet (which does list
classifications) is handed out to anyone who would like a copy.
2. For the prevention of fraud, I think it is essential that
employers etc. can check qualifications, including classifications,
with the University independently, rather than relying on
certificates etc. produced by the student which might be forged.
