Dear Colleagues
given all the wonderful excitements facing us all next academic year on the
fees front, we at Herts
are looking at ways of expediting the student loans certification process.
One problem could be the
lack of information coming out of the Student Loans Company about the likely
arrival time of their
1998-99 stationery - I phoned them a day or so back, only to be told "we
haven't thought about it".
Given that the stationery normally arrives in August, this is too late for
any universities who send
out some of their final mailshots to new students before then & who might
have thought about including the
SLC's eligibility questionnaires in their mailshots to allow max time for
pre-completion before the
certification rush at enrolment.
Has anybody thought about sending out questionnaires in advance? if so, is
there merit in an approach to the SLC to see if they might be "persuaded" to
beef up their stationery production for next year? I would
be quite happy to make a request to SLC but it is possible that some
institutions may have done
so or are contemplating a higher-level approach to SLC (?).
Or do you all wait until A level results are known before sending out your
new student final mailshots -
if so, there is less point to my idea but it may still be worthwhile to get
the SLC's stationery a bit
earlier this year, to allow time to stuff student envelopes with blank
questionnaires and maybe a
"specimen" form as a guide
Any views please
thanks
Philip
