Well, (I can hear the screams already) I thing the first "Terminator" movie
was a pretty interesting commentary on environment/technology (and a very
good love story if you can get past all the killing).
There was a movie out a few years ago about the environmental destruction of
Easter Island. It was a flop and stayed in the theaters for about one day. I
forget the name.
I've always thought "On the Beach" with (I think) Gregory Peck and Ava
Gardner was good.
Any of the "Giant Bugs Created by Atomic Explosion" genre, such as "Them"
with James Arness have at least rudimentary environmental messages of "Don't
screw with Mother Nature or she'll kick your butt." Any of the
"Frankenstein" bunch as well.
Kurasawa's last film, "Dreams" had a lot of environmental issues in it.
By the way, I don't think "free willy" is (are) environmental. In fact I
think that they give the opposite message, i.e. that nature is dependent on
humans to "save" it. It would have been a lot better if Willy had eaten the
little kid, so maybe "Moby Dick" (either the Gregory Peck or recent HBO
version) or that stupid movie with Richard Harris about the killer whale,
"Orca" would be better IMO.

. . .The Creativity within the natural system we
inherit, and the values this generates, are the
ground of our being, not just the ground under
our feet. Earth could be the ultimate object of duty,
short of God, if God exists.
