Later this semester I am due to be give a (fairly low level) lecture
entitled 'Hollywood, whales and rainforests' to second year students
taking our BA Media and Society (so they will have little expertise
in the field of environmental studies). Does anyone know of any good
or interesting films that are readily available on video that have
strong environmental themes? (It doesn't matter if they aren't
critically acclaimed or intellectually 'satisfying' from any kind of
environmentalist perspective.)
I have already thought of Martin Borman's Emerald Forest and the two
'Free Willy' films (no doubt favourites with Bill Clinton). Any other
suggestions? I would also be interested in any suggestions
on literature concerning film representations of 'the environment'
and/or 'nature'.
Responses on- or off-list would be much appreciated. If
people are interested, I will mail a complete list of suggestions to
the list as and when.
Many thanks
Quentin
