The Decision-making and Valuation for Environmental Policy program
Announcement has been posted on the NSF Home Page; it can also be found on
the EPA/NCERQA (National Center for Environmental Research and Quality
Assurance) Home Page. The deadline for proposal submission is February 1,
1999. Below is a several paragraph description of the focus of the program:
The FY1999 Decision-making and Valuation for Environmental Policy (DMVEP)
competition solicits proposals in two areas:
* The Relationship between the Economy and the Environment
* Environmental Decision-making
For the first topic - the relationship between the economy and the
environment
- the competition will give preference to research that addresses pollution
prevention and control programs, especially programs that are national in
scope. Research at the regional or local level will be supported only if
its
results clearly will inform the analysis of national problems.
For the second topic - environmental decision making - recent competitions
have
resulted in a number of awards focusing on public participation and
negotiation. In the present competition, preference will be given to
proposals
that address other types of innovative methods and processes, proposals that
focus on ecosystem-level analyses, and proposals that examine social and
cultural factors and their linkages to environmental policy formation and
implementation.

priorities and review criteria, please see
