Subscribers to the list may be interested in the review in the current
issue of the TLS of Martha Cooley's novel The Archivist.
There are in fact two archivists amongst the novel's principal characters.
The first is keeper of rare books and special collections at one of
America's most prestigious institutions of higher education who is
besieged by graduate student determined to gain access to a closed
collection of letters written to TS Elliot by Emily Hale. (The collection
is real and at Princeton). The second is the deceased wife of the first
who had built her own collection of Holocaust evidence and testimony and
whose journals are drawn on for an important section of the novel. The
novel is available in paperback from Abacus.
